‘The availability of reliable suppliers is key to the energy security of the EU. Solidarity and coordinated action between Member States are needed to ensure energy supply and combat high energy prices’.

This is the statement of the Executive Director of Bulgartransgaz EAD, Mr Vladimir Malinov, at the international East Med & SouthEast Europe Conference, held on 25 October 2022 in Belgium.

In his speech, Mr. Malinov emphasised the role of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, from trusted partners and the gas infrastructure to build a hydrogen economy and successfully achieve the EU's climate goals. Thanks to the liquefied gas terminals, the developed gas transmission system and the potential for production and import of hydrogen, Bulgaria and Greece can become an energy portal for Central and Eastern Europe.

The event, which is organised by the Delphi Economic Forum, was attended by representatives of various sectors, institutions, government offices and other high ranking officials.

Issues related to the economic, domestic and foreign political challenges facing the Eastern Mediterranean and South-Eastern Europe region were discussed.

Within the framework of the forum, Vladimir Malinov participated in a discussion on the topic ‘From Green Energy to Security: Fostering EU Energy Autonomy in a world of weaponized interdependence’, together with H.E.  Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Ambassador, Head of Mission, Arab Republic of Egypt to the EU, Mr. Mario Nava, Director General, Directorate-General Structural Reform Support, European Commission, Mrs. Mary Burce Warlick, Deputy Executive Director, International Energy Agency and Mrs. Maria Rita Galli, CEO, DESFA.
